Charity Posters

As part of a passion project at Nice and Serious, we set up the
‘Seriously Nice Shop’, to sell posters for charity.

Here’s a selection of the posters I designed.

Theme: LGBTQ+ visibility
Charity: We Exist.

Badges have been a sign of being seen and visible in the LGBTQ+ community for many decades. In a time where it was illegal to be LGBTQ+, wearing a badge would have been a bold, brave statement. Today, badges are still used as a way to celebrate and show LGBTQ+ identities to the wider world, where challenges are still faced. I’ve used badges with joyful emoji style symbols with colours taken from historic badges, celebrating LGBTQ+ people being seen in the present day.

Theme: Mental Health
Charity: Black Minds Matter

I wanted to design a set of three mental health mantras that have helped me through my mental health over the last few years:

  • ‘One Step at a Time’ is to remind us to slow down and that our list of to do’s doesn’t need to always be ticked off.

  • Breathe In, Breathe Out’ is a reminder to pause and take a deep breath, and soak in the present.

  • ‘Do Nice Things’ is a simple reminder to be kind to ourselves.

Theme: Homelessness
Charity: The Whitechapel Mission

Showing kindness to those closest to us, and strangers alike is something that can go a long way. I wanted to use smiley faces to visualise this. When I’m walking around London, I try and capture every smiley face I see that’s been graffitied. For me, they represent small moments of joy and are a reminder that it’s up to us to spread it.

These posters are a reminder that homelessness is not always visible, and we never know what anyone is going through.

Theme: Peace and War
Charity: DEC Ukraine War Appeal

This poster was designed a few weeks after the start of the horrific Ukraine War.
I wanted to design a poster that could be used on a placard, protesting the war. There is strength and simplicity in the line ‘Peace, Please’.

This has been designed in my own typeface, inspired by Women’s Land Army war posters, which you can read more about here.
